WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE SUGAR DETOX

Today’s Workout:

Ran Outside: 6 miles/ recovery pace ( from being sick)

April 1-7 I took part in the Sugar Detox Challenge that MommyRunFast hosted! I am so glad that I took part in this challenge because it definitely showed me that I do have an addiction to sugar and a huge sweet tooth. I love a challenge and I knew that this would be a good thing for me no matter what. Finding new ways to get healthier is always intriguing to me! I think that  I do well when I have someone else there to kind of keep me accountable along the way. I also think that it helps to know that others are going through the same thing, so of course, I don’t want to let them down!

The first few days were not as bad as I thought they would be. Luckily the diet that I try to stick to didn’t cause me to really have to miss anything too much. I think it actually got worse for me as the week went on- in the beginning, I would think about grabbing a sweet snack or something but just for a second. Near the end, I was craving sweets consistently! Usually, my coffee is the highlight of my day but without putting added sweetener in it, it just was not the same. Most of what I ate looked the same each day.

I felt very healthy and full of energy as the week progressed. I was confident and even happy with myself for being so disciplined! It felt really good!

A few things that I learned from this detox:

– I don’t crave the added sugar in my coffee anymore. I actually like it without now.

– I feel better about myself when I eat healthier

– I have more energy in my runs when I am not eating processed foods/added sugars

– This was a confidence booster for me

– I want to try to cut out sugar more on a daily basis 

Something that I wish I would have done differently in this detox would be meal planning. I wish that I would have spent more time preparing fun, and creative meals to give me more of a variety. I felt like a lot of the time I was eating the same thing over and over again. When I do my next sugar detox I want to be better about this! Also- on the last day of the detox I drank chocolate milk without even thinking about it after my race! Definitely a rookie mistake!
